University of Notre Dame Robinson Community Learning Center AmeriCorps Member (half-year position, serving with the Youth Development Program in Notre Dame, Indiana
The mission of the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) is to welcome community and Notre Dame partners that strengthen the Northeast Neighborhood of South Bend through relationship building and educational opportunities. By promoting innovation and excellence, the Center builds individual capacity and enhances existing systems throughout South Bend. The work of the RCLC addresses five goals to accomplish this mission: Hospitality, Education, Partnership, Civic Engagement, and Sustainability.
The RCLC Youth Development Program aims to improve educational outcomes for low-income, minority youth through the provision of comprehensive programming which includes afterschool tutoring, enrichment activities, and youth leadership training.
Service Position Summary: The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for helping to facilitate the ongoing Youth Development program as well as coordinating short term projects and events
Specific Responsibilities include:
Help to coordinate enrichment program for middle and high schoolers. This includes: working with parents, students, RCLC staff, and partners to develop and implement curriculum, leading projects and activities, making arrangements for field trips, arranging for speakers, collecting and compiling evaluation survey data, tracking attendance, maintaining RCLC records as required, and maintaining ongoing communication with parents and RCLC Youth Development Director.
Assist in implementation of daily youth afterschool program. This may include: tutoring, supervising volunteer tutors, leading activities, gathering supplies and resources, coordinating meetings, and communicating with parents.
Document Youth Development activities through photographs and text, and submit information regularly to the RCLC web site and Facebook page.
Oversee and coordinate special projects as requested.
Attend AmeriCorps meetings at the RCLC
AmeriCorps is a national service organization aimed at helping communities meet needs in areas including education by building the capacity of community organizations. AmeriCorps provides funding for the RCLC to engage a total of 31 full- and part-time AmeriCorps members during 2018-2019.
These are considered service positions, rather than traditional “jobs”. This Half-Time (half-year) AmeriCorps member will be expected to complete 900 hours of service by July 31, 2019. Members receive their Living Allowance in equal installments throughout the term of service. On completion of the term of service, members will receive an education award.
this AmeriCorps position will be compensated as follows:
Stipend: $571.43 per month Education Award: $2,960 (on completion of 900 hours of service) Health Insurance for duration of term of service

Additional Qualifications include:
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Interest in education, working with at-risk youth and community development.
Public speaking and the ability to teach/train others.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and some on-line systems.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work in a variety of settings.
Sensitivity, compassion and listening skills required to work with a diverse audience including: RCLC staff, volunteers, fellow AmeriCorps members, Notre Dame and community partners, participants (ranging in age from early childhood through senior citizens), neighborhood residents and families.
