The Salvation Army - Metro Division Day Camp Counselor in New Albany, Indiana
The purpose of this position is to help in providing for the safe, effective and efficient day-to-day operation of the Summer Day Camp Program.
1) Assist a classroom teacher in grades K-8 in both small and large group settings including, but not limited to, Bible, Arts and Crafts, Music and Drama, Computers, Recreation, large group games, outdoor sports, indoor activities, etc. Check in with Christian Education Director every day upon arrival to receive daily duties.2) Provide a safe, clean and loving environment for all youth.3) Clean Games Room/Lunchroom after all morning activities when youth are in their first block of classes.4) Clean, or assist in cleaning, all classrooms throughout the day.5) Proper reporting of all incidents and activities (major or minor), involving students, staff, and parents to Christian Education Director is essential! Christian Education Director is solely responsible for communicating with parents.6) Provide support and respect to other teachers and counselors7) Be a part of the support team for other teachers when not teaching or preparing your activities.8) All areas used by the youth must be kept clean on a daily basis and all building shut-down procedures must be completed daily.9) Play with the youth doing the activities they enjoy.10) Closely monitor the youth during all activities, especially those in high-risk areas such as the gymnasium, restrooms, and any time we leave our facility. It is imperative to follow all procedures when taking youth off our premises!11) Show respect to all youth, staff members and parents.12) Always follow proper procedures for discipline and ask for assistance when needed.13) Be available for other duties as assigned.14) Follow all Covid safety guidelines.
Education: At least 18 years of age - typically requires a High School diploma.
Background Checks: This Position requires a background check to be completed. Findings may disqualify an individual for this position.Experience: We are anticipating some background in working with children – especially in a leadership roleCertifications:
Skills/Abilities: Ability to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with children and other Day Camp leaders.
