The manufacturing engineer position develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls; coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products. Identifying and implementing continuous improvement activities that will result in cost savings, utilization and efficiency improvements and overall safety of the employees in the plant. Acts as a technical bridge between Product Engineering and the plant floor.
Essential Job Functions
Provide detailed feedback to product and design engineering on all new product launches specifically in regards tooling, process, machine rates, capability analysis.
Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results.
Work with manufacturing supervisors to communicate needed machine schedules to ensure successful product launches and quality requirements are met
Upon part kick off, work with teams to create project timelines that meet customer delivery and PPAP requirements
Participate in and contribute to PMP / APQP reviews by providing project status updates
Interface with tooling suppliers and purchasing on the new construction of tools, primary and secondary equipment
Ensures safety and ergonomic considerations are made relating to equipment, process and plant layout.
Establish and maintain the processes in production to ensure the production of parts which meet company and customer specifications
Review Engineering Change Requests for effect on manufacturing processes.
Initiates all the manufacturing principles of Lean Manufacturing.
Drive problem resolution of manufacturing issues including but not limited to fishbone diagrams,
8-D, corrective actions, 5 Why, etc.
Drive continuous improvement projects associated with the manufacturing process including inventory reductions, working capital turns, and complexity management.
Manage a wide variety of projects including vendor services, Six Sigma, Lean initiatives and new equipment selection and implementation
Participate in and lead team projects and give advice and assistance
Prepare and maintain operating procedures for multiple manufacturing and engineering functions
Troubleshoot manufacturing and quality issues within the existing product lines
Understand and be able to guide/coach teams on a wide range of process improvement tools to identify and eliminate waste.
Validate plant capital equipment / capacity needs available to support new product and existing product growth.
Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
Conduct and report on monthly launch readiness reviews

Essential Skills & Experience
Excellent project management skills and proven successful project launches.
Five-plus (5+) years of related metal manufacturing experience is required
Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and MRP systems
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering is required
Proven record of cost reduction within a manufacturing facility
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
Experience with CAD and 3D modeling experience are required
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
Ability to write technical reports
Understanding of IATF-16949 requirements for new products launches

Good communication skills, verbal and written
Good computer knowledge
Ability to stay focused on work and manage multiple projects timely

Inside typical office environment with time spent on production floor regularly. Use of computer and other office equipment frequently. Production floor temperature fluctuates dependant on season. Noise levels require hearing protection. Working around powered industrial vehicles.
