The objective of the Y AmeriCorps Youth Mentor/Tutor will be to provide additional academic support during critical non-school hours, including summer break. AmeriCorps members will use a pre-planned curriculum and set achievement activities geared for each school based on the school individual improvement plan. Members will work with children in small groups in order to provide a structured learning environment where sharing and learning can occur more freely based on the needs of the child.

Minimum Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.

Communicate effectively with youth in program. Provide and maintain a safe, stimulating environment and appropriately handle all emergency situations. Build positive relationships with youth and families. Provide leadership and teaching skills to students. Completion of all Y and AmeriCorps training according to position guidelines. Greet and communicate with parents and be accessible to answer questions as needed. Incorporate the core values of the Y and follows guidelines for professional image by wearing approved attire and nametag. Take appropriate action in response to policy/rule violations and report problems and concerns. Communicate effectively and consistently with Program Director. Exhibit a positive and cooperative attitude.
