The Lilly Professional Apprenticeship Program is a 12-month intensive fixed duration (FDE) professional development program during which the apprentice receives a combination of formal training, on-the-job learning, and mentoring in a key functional area to be equipped to compete for a Lilly position after successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Responsibility Statement

Lilly is seeking an Import Export Controls Apprentice who shares our passion for making life better for people around the world. The US Import Export Compliance team engages with a variety of groups both inside and outside the company to ensure compliance to U.S. trade laws including U.S. Customs (CBP), U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC), and U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). In this role you will develop a foundation of trade compliance knowledge and gain exposure to multiple business and functional areas, including supply chain, legal, finance, IT, R&D, manufacturing, procurement, and third party risk management. With coaching and feedback, Lilly will provide you the ability to further your growth as a professional within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop understanding oftheelements of compliance system modeland use this knowledge tosupport daily operationsfor import,exportand trade sanctions controls.

  • Monitoring and assessments—ConductCustomspostentrychecks, entry file reconciliationandassist in transaction testingand interviews duringformal assessments

  • Training—Assist in the developmentofweb basedtraining forinternalcustomers

  • Policies and Procedures—Update existingproceduresandwrite new procedures for both USIEC andinternal partners

  • Record Keeping—Using SharePoint or other platforms,develop and manage documentationrepository for compliance activities including key decisions,classifications,licensingand approvals.

  • Supporting Daily Import and Export Operations:  Engageinternalbusiness partners, third party vendors,suppliers, and shippersto support the regulatory aspects of U. S.tradecompliance.  Executetechnical requirements of trade such as classifications, valuation, origin, AES filing, etc. Developmetrics/dashboard, tracking, record keeping, power of attorneydocumentsand review contracts.

Basic Qualifications


HS Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of related or professional experience. Proven experience with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Additional Skills/Preferences

Desired Experience :

  • At least 1 year of college and/or associate degree in a related field.

  • Experience,knowledgeand desire to work in/ Pharma / Healthcare

  • Preferred background in IT,financeor legal setting

  • Experience with government regulations or government filings

  • Experience with shipping and logistics paperwork anddocumentation

  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

  • Strong organizing/multi-tasking skills and attention to detail

  • Learning agility and self-management skills

  • Strong research and analytical skills
